Astrology groups the twelve zodiac signs according to their similarities, one such grouping has to do with the nature of the zodiac sign, masculine or feminine.  The nature of a sign has little to do with biology, but rather its mode of operation.  The masculine signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius) are independent, self-propelled, extroverted and take action.  The feminine signs (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces) are dependent, receptive, introverted and actions are subtle.  When judging the compatibility of two individuals, the astrologer looks at many factors in both natal horoscopes, the first being, the zodiac sun signs.  The sun sign represents the very essence of the individual, the will, ego and one’s focus in life.  In general, the masculine signs seek -out feminine signs, however all combinations can work.  When one party, in a relationship, has a strong emphasis in the masculine signs, he will be the one who will go out into the world and make his mark, while the other party will remain in the shadows.  When both parties have a strong emphasis in the masculine signs, there is competitiveness and fighting, however if both parties share a common interest or goal, the relationship can work.  Last, when both parties have a strong emphasis in the feminine signs, there is harmony, peaceful coexistence and contentment, however this relationship is subject to boredom.
